4NCL Online League – Season 7 – Round 2 Report

4ncl competition

Round 2 on 7th February saw our eight Wessex teams going into battle across all five divisions.

We played 30 boards – unfortunately our H team found themselves up against 2 defaults so George and Larissa did not get a chance to play.

For the 30 games played, we scored 13 wins, 7 draws and 10 losses.

This translated in match terms into 4 match wins, 1 draw and 3 losses.

Division 1

Our A team had a great evening, winning comfortably against a strong Guildford 1 team, including Gavin winning with black against an IM.  You can see that game, lightly annotated by Peter Anderson, at the end of this report.

Our B team edged a tight match, including a typical tactical bloodbath game involving Dominic!

Division 2

Our C looked to have a tough match with reasonably matched grades yet rose to the challenge and won comfortably.

Division 3

Our D team had a tight match which eventually ended up as a 2-2 draw.

Our E team lost narrowly to a strong Jurassic Coast team.

Division 4

Our F team faced a lower graded team who played way beyond their grade to take the match.

Division 5

Our G team were out-graded on the top 3 boards and went down 4-0.

Our H team started 2-0 due to 2 x defaults and proceed to win 4-0 – indeed we were already  3-0 up before 20:00 – possibly a record early victory time?

Summary

Our A & B teams continue to flourish in Division 1 and are both top of their respective groups !

We still have 6 players @ 100% – Jamie Doyle, Gavin Lock, Tim McCullagh, Rolandas Lukosius, David Pye and Mike Krawczuk
