4NCL OTB Restarts: Weekend 1 – Poole and Wessex Results

4ncl competition

After a long COVID hiatus the 4NCL OTB leagues restarted at the weekend.   There were three Wessex teams in action, now under the non-playing captaincy of Annie Adaway, and a newly formed Poole team captained by John Weatherlake.

The format for this season is that there is a combined Division 1 & 2, a Division 3 North, a Division 3 Central and a Division 3 South.  All the local teams are in Division 3 South which comprises 32 teams of 6 boards.  There will 11 rounds played over 5 weekends, normally with one round on Saturday and another on Sunday, but with an extra round in the final weekend in April/May.

The time control is 40 moves in 1 hour 40 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, followed by the rest of the game in 50 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, which is slow enough to allow for good quality play.

Overall it was a fair set of results for the local teams, particularly as points had to be dropped as Wessex A faced Poole in Round 2.  Wessex A won both their matches, whilst Poole, Wessex B and Wessex C all won one and lost one.

The detailed results can be seen below.

An excellent report by David Fuller for Poole is here on the Poole website.

We hope to bring you a little more information on the Wessex teams later in the week.
