4NCL – Wessex A narrowly lose to fellow relegation pool candidates Guildford

The 3 Wessex teams were all in action this weekend, 9 & 10 Feb ’19. A playing in 2b, B & C both competing in 4s.

On 9 Feb, Wessex A lost to Irish team Gonzaga 1.5-4.5. Allan Pleasants sent this report Saturday evening:

A tough match for us against Irish team Gonzaga. After a long journey to Telford we never looked like making an upset and very quickly the match went from bad to worse. Local players Martin Simons and Michael Duggan got good draws, but Allan Pleasants and John Weatherlake eventually succumbed. Tomorrows game is really important against Guildford C who are also relegation pool candidates.

Meanwhile in 4s, joint leaders Wessex B drew 3-3 with Oxford 3.  Wessex C lost 2-4 to Rook & Roll.

Then on Sunday, 10 Feb Wessex A lost to Guildford C 3-5.

In 4s, also on Sunday, Wessex B stay in promotion contention with a 4-2 win v Wood Green Youth. For several young players in Wessex C the experience of playing at this level will be much more important than actual results and against  Cambridge University 3 they lost  1-5.
