22 Sept ’19: This day of speed chess at Furzebrook will be especially remembered by the outstanding performance of Southbourne junior Declan Lovelock. Astonishingly, he was playing in his first Dorset chess congress. But there were signs of his huge potential when he won the Southbourne 10 second Buzzer Tournament a week earlier with 6/6 in a strong field.
The event was also notable for having 7 juniors in total, an encouragingly high proportion of the total entry.
As shown in the picture above (taken by Steve Peirson), the playing conditions in the Furzebrook Village Hall near Wareham were excellent.
Main Organiser was again Steve Peirson from the local club Purbeck and Martin Simons was also very involved with the running of the event, not least his reknowned hot lunch choices.
