This page is dedicated to some of the best games played by Allan in 2017, a year in which he became Welsh Champion. Analysis by Martin Simons. As the year progressed Allan seemed to go from strength to strength and beating an International Master and drawing with a Grandmaster started to become routine. Brilliant – well done Allan!
Martin Simons reports 16 July:
Allan Pleasants continues his fine form by coming equal 5th out of 54 entrants in a strong South Wales International Open being played in Cardiff and which included 13 titled players (4 GMs and 3 IMs!) with a score of 6½ out of 10. Link given below to this event.
Allan played 2 GMs, 1 IM and 1 WFM losing only to the 2 GMs.
His last round win was probably his best game which was against a very strong IM Richard Jones (who himself beat a very highly rated GM with 3 Queen sacrifices in Round 3).
Below I have copied the full game, but have limited my annotations to the critical moment which came on move 27.
This is great preparation for Allan for the 104th British Championships (which is being held in Llandudno (28 July-6 August) – the omens are looking good for Allan as he seems to be playing his best chess in Wales!
