6 May: A good day (Bank Holiday Monday) for Wessex A, winners 5-3 over Manchester Manticores to finish 6th out of 8 teams in 2d
In 4s Wessex B drew with Celtic Tigers and shared 3rd place in the final table. Also in 4s, Wessex B were beaten by All Anands on Deck 2-3.5, and were 24th. 38 teams competed in 4s.
6 May: It was a good day yesterday (Sunday) for the 20 players who represented 3 Wessex teams.
In 2d Wessex A were convincing winners against Bradford DCA A by 6.5-1.5 and moved out of the bottom 2 in the league table.
And in 4s Wessex B drew 3-3 with Fisher’s Catch and are 3rd in the league table out of 38 teams. In the same division Wessex C defeated Barnet Knights 3 by 4.5-1.5 and are now 22nd
The Wessex players may be grateful they are not in the same division as star studded Guildford 1. Their all-grandmaster team averaged 2672 against Cheddleton 1 yesterday. Needless to say they won 6.5-1.5 – their opponents had 4 grandmasters and averaged 2502.

5 May: Wessex A lost 2-5.5 to The ADS’s in 2d; there was a penalty 0.5 for defaulting one board. Wessex A are 7th of 8 teams
In the 38 team 4s, Wessex B kept up their good form beating Poisoned Pawns Next Generation 3.5-2.5. 5 individual games were drawn, but Roger Marsh won to secure the team victory. Wessex B are well placed in the league table and are in with a strong chance of promotion.
Also in 4s, Wessex C were beaten by Sussex Martlets 3 by 2-4
