27 Sept: Every year some experienced chess players choose to train to become arbiters at chess events, especially congresses, across the country. Tim Paulden of the ECF has sent out this message on a course taking place next month in Exeter:

“You may be interested to learn that an ECF Arbiters Course will be taking place in Exeter on the weekend of Sat 5 – Sun 6 October 2019. This course (which incorporates the Level 1 assessment) is suitable for those who do not have previous experience of arbiting, but are keen to develop their knowledge and to achieve the first level of arbiter training.

These courses take place only a few times each year around the country – and this is the first one for several years to be held in Devon. The lecturers will be Adrian Elwin and Tom Thorpe, and the course fee is £30.

For further details and a link to the registration page, please visit the website https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-arbiters-course-3/ or just search online for “arbiters course exeter”.

Please note that advance registration is essential, and places are limited – so be sure to sign up soon to avoid missing out!”

 Best wishes,

Tim
