Help requested to enable blind players to enjoy their Bournemouth tournament – daily 11am to 12 noon, 16-21 June
John Jenkins is extremely grateful for a number of offers of help in response to the request below. For example, Poole’s Graham Morris has offered to go in each day and, good support too from John’s own club Highcliffe (update 6am 17 June)
John Jenkins, well known in Dorset chess as an active member of Highcliffe, has written to Martin Simons (immediately below) requesting some help with their annual tournament being run daily at Bournemouth’s Marsham Court Hotel from this Saturday. Martin has agreed to offer his support by running a simultaneous on Saturday, when they are also have a dinner in the evening. Ian Clark, representing both B&DCL & the County League, is giving a talk on Monday afternoon. The players can follow any games Ian goes through on their own special boards.
If any local players can help these players with sight loss have a great tournament each day, please contact John on his mobile, given below.
As per our telephone conversation, we have 18 blind players in our tournament, plus two more who are beginners. I am looking for people who may wish to help by overseeing their moves to ensure the moves on both boards are the same, and perhaps giving a little advice.
I am looking for slots between 11.00am and 12.00 on Saturday 16th through to Thursday 21st.
We are playing at the Marsham Court Hotel, in Bournemouth. Car park is in Grove Road BH1 3AU.
