New Saturday morning Junior Chess Club at Castlepoint Library

We are very excited to announce that we have managed to secure a new free Junior Chess Club for 7 to 11 year olds at Castlepoint Library on Saturday mornings (10.15am to 12noon). This club will be run by volunteers from the B&DCL on behalf of the library. The first session started on Saturday, 7th September and, despite limited advertising prior to the first session, it was very successful attracting a good number of enthusiastic juniors.

To reach out further to all juniors in the area, we plan to extend the publicity by advising all the local clubs and schools of this new initiative and ask them to promote its details on their respective websites / newsletters.

In the photo, Ian Clark is seen delivering an important chess message on how pawns move to the juniors. Separate tuition is also provided and the juniors can spend time practising these skills by playing games against each other with the B&DCL volunteers giving guidance and advice. However, we are keen that all juniors, regardless of their knowledge and skills, simply have fun!

We always welcome new juniors of all levels and volunteers, so please contact Nikki Forster on 07733 134163 or email [email protected] if you wish to find out more.
