Poole A 1.5 Wimborne A 2.5, B&DCL Div 1; Wimborne A now top table, but Poole A have crucial match in hand

Bournemouth & District Chess League

14 May. Several Championships this season across B&DCL & County are being settled between the Poole and Wimborne clubs. In this important match Wimborne’s narrow win put them as new league leaders, but they have now completed their programme. There were 3 draws, but the crucial outcome was on board 3 where Eddie Barker (Wimborne) beat Dave Fuller. So it all comes down to next Wednesday at RBL, North Road when Poole A entertain Wimborne B. A win for Poole A will make them champions, but a draw or win for Wimborne B opens the door for either their compatriots, Wimborne A or Southbourne B to snatch the title.

So the destiny of the title is still currently in Poole’s hand on Wednesday, but it is clear relegated Wimborne B could still play a major part!

Poole’s Eric Sachs commented “Win for Wimborne A takes them top of the league but Poole A have another chance on Wednesday vs Wimborne B. Well done Wimborne.”

A fine end to a great season in Div 1.
