16 May. Very well done to Poole who are crowned Div 1 champions after an incredibly close match with Wimborne B. As Eric Sachs reports below, Poole had to battle back after going 0-1 behind to a Jorgen Nielsen win on board 4 and to their credit, Wimborne B fought all the way and the result was in doubt right up to the very end. To be champions Poole A had needed to win! It has been a fantastic season in Div 1 and perhaps fitting the championship should go down to the final game in this exciting match!

Here is Eric’s report from the scene of battle…..

“It was so close. Jorgen beat Dragi early on so we needed 2.5/3 with all games fairly equal. Mike Duggan got ahead but Pete Wilcox hung in but eventually succumbed.  David Fuller & Steven Appleby shook hands in a fluid position.

So all on Martin Machatek and he eventually found a winning line to beat a very dogged Mark Littleton.

Just crossed the line to win the match and league -phew! As always well done Wimborne B and sorry you are relegated”.
