Ringwood edge tight match with Dorchester A to win County 1 for first time; board 2 decisive

9 Apr: As Martin Clancy & Geoff Searing reported on LMS, 2 evenly matched teams battled it out last night to decide the County 1 Championship. All credit to Dorchester who brought a strong team and provided tough opposition. There was very little between the players on each board and after draws on boards 3 & 4, James Forster secured the break-through for Ringwood winning against Andrew Footner. The last, and also highly complex game, Peter Anderson v Mike Waddington attracted huge interest and much later analysis, but ended in a draw – although Geoff Searing commented that Mike later reflected he should have played on. It is the first time Ringwood has won County 1. Just recently Ringwood A also won the 1st Division of the Southampton League.
