2023 B&DCL Handicap KO Cup – 1st Round Results & 2nd Round Draw!

This competition is scheduled to run from the Spring 2023 to the Autumn 2023 and finish before our leagues start next season. This worked well for the start of this season when the 2022 Cup competition was completed with a semi-final in August and the final in September 2022. Indeed, it became a welcome curtain raiser!

Players fully concentrating at the Poole Position v Highcliffe Fischers Cup 1st round match which Poole Position won on the handicap score in an exciting match.

1st Round Results

  • 6 home teams progressed through to the 2nd round (one by default) and only 1 away team.
  • 2 of the winning teams (Ringwood B and Yeovil) secured their wins with a ½ point to spare whilst 4 of the winning teams exactly achieved the handicap score and one of the teams had a default win.
  • Ringwood B progress straight though to the semi-final having secured the best 1st round result.

2nd Round Draw

Ratings in brackets are the average live ratings used by each team in the 1st round and are given for guidance purposes only as they could change.

Bournemouth Buccaneers (N/A) vs Poole The Other One (1734)

Poole Position (1567) vs Southbourne Seagulls (1541)

Purbeck (1639) vs Yeovil (1820)
This match may be played at a neutral venue such as Dorchester due to the clubs being more than 35 miles apart.

Ringwood B has a BYE as it achieved the best 1st round score by exceeding its required score in the 1st round by half a point and it had a lower average rating than Yeovil (which also beat its required score by half a point). Default wins do not count!

Timescales and Practicalities

Matches should be completed by Friday, 16th June 2023 which gives just over 7 weeks to arrange and play the matches.

The 1st named team has the choice of venue although the Purbeck v Yeovil match above may be played at a neutral venue.

The rules, including the rating handicap system, can be found here and via the main menu under B&DC League.

A blank Match Scoresheet can be found here which should be printed out and used in matches.

As stated in the rules, we will be using the latest live monthly ratings which will include games played up to the end of the previous month. So, as an example, if a cup match was played in May, it is the May 2023 rating that will count (and games played in May 2023 will not count).

Please remember to have a calculator ready at your matches to calculate both teams’ average ratings and the difference in average ratings to work out the required score!

The team captains are as follows (most captains’ contact details are on LMS):

  • Bournemouth Buccaneers – Daniel Miles
  • Poole Position – Tarik Reghif
  • Poole The Other One – John Weatherlake
  • Purbeck – Steve Peirson
  • Ringwood – Martin Clancy
  • Southbourne Seagulls – Nikki Forster
  • Yeovil – Adam Batson

Good luck to all teams!

Martin Simons – April 2023
