Purbeck’s End of Season Quickplay Tournament

Steve Peirson has sent us the following report on Purbeck’s the end of season tournament.

For the last few years Purbeck have finished the season with a handicap quickplay tournament. Each game lasts up to 15 minutes (no increment) with the time allocated to the players depending on the rating difference. A rating difference greater than 600 means the stronger player only gets 1 minute 30 seconds.

Eight players took part in this season’s tournament (as pictured below): Derek, Matthew, John, Me, Nick, Pierre, Florence (the defending champion!) and Joe. It was very tight at the top with everyone losing at least two games. In what turned out to be the decider, Florence beat me (again ☹ ) to win the tournament by half a point. Derek could have come equal first but he didn’t realise this and agreed a draw in his last game! So Florence successfully defended her title.
