Dorset Junior Chess – Friday evening online Chess event goes from strength to strength

This Friday (28th November) saw another highly enjoyable online chess coaching and tournament for Dorset junior chess players.

The evening started at 5pm with a very enthusiastic interactive chess lesson led by Andy Baskett. This first covered a summary of the previous week’s session on ‘Pins’  with a few more tricky puzzles – although quickly solved by the keen juniors –  followed by a Chesskid.com video on Counting the attacking and defensive pieces which created a lot of discussion during the video and after. Even some of the kitchen pots and pans in various homes got involved! (Please could players check where the mute button is).

The very close and exciting tournament, using the Chesskid.com platform, was run over 3 rounds with everyone taking part. There were some interesting battles and it is so encouraging to see how much the players are improving. The tournament was won by Jack and Florence, followed by Lohit in third place. But well played everyone, it was very close!

Coaches on hand were Andy Baskett, Martin Simons, Martin Clancy with support from Nikki Forster. In total, 12 juniors attended and the whole evening proved both great fun and a fantastic learning experience.

These evenings are proving to be very popular. If you know of any juniors who would be interested then please contact [email protected].

We welcome all junior chess players from across the Dorset and Bournemouth & District chess league catchment areas (and some who are just over the border in Hampshire!) irrespective of your school or chess club affiliation.
