It is with great sadness we report on the passing of one of Southbourne Chess Club’s most loyal and popular members, Vic Cox, last Saturday, following a recent fall and hospitalisation.
Vic did not play competitive league chess but he was always keen to travel the 3 miles to the Southbourne Chess Club from his home on Friday evenings (and also to the Ludo Lounge on Tuesday afternoons) using his mobility scooter, regardless of the weather conditions, so that he could play some friendly games of chess and be ever present to support the club over the past 8 years or so. He was much liked for the kindness and joy he brought to club members. He was also very supportive of its junior chess club.
