Keith Gregory sends the following report on the very well attended 100th edition of the Wessex Some Stars 5 minute + 5 second tournament.
I was delighted to see our 100th Weekly Swiss had a record turnout of 28 players, including players from Chandlers Ford who kindly suspended their usual Thursday tournament to support us.
To celebrate the “#100 not out” occasion there were podium prizes of £15, £10 & £5 plus a book prize for the under 1700s kindly donated by Graham Stuart and won by Patrick Pavey.
Despite a strong line up, with 10 x 2100+ players, Oscar Garcia raced to 5/5 and with a quick draw in round 6 sealed an impressive 5.5/6 victory. Martin Simons & Jamie Doyle completed the podium equal 2nd with 4.5/6.
6 players came in equal 4th on 4/6, including Reenen Du Toit with an impressive 2340 result. I’m hoping to keep these tournaments going (#200 here we come!) and I was hugely encouraged by such a great evening of chess – many thanks to all who supported it.
