BIG THANKS TO DORSET CHESS PLAYERS FROM THE BRAILLE CHESS ASSOCIATION
Twenty blind and partially sighted chess players held their Chairman’s Cup Congress this June at the Marsham Court Hotel, Bournemouth. We all had a most enjoyable week which was ably supported by local chess players.
The congress was opened on Friday 15th June by The Mayor Cllr Derek Borthwick and the Lady Mayoress (pictured above and below). On Saturday, Martin Simons conducted a simultaneous display winning eight and drawing five of his thirteen games. Throughout the week Ian Clark, Eric Sachs, Graham Morris and Michael Jay assisted with coaching.
Ian ran a session illustrating outstanding games which the delegates followed on their special boards. Everyone present enjoyed Graham’s guitar playing and singing when he joined in our musical soiree on the last evening.
Our own Steve Bailey acquitted himself very well, winning a grading prize.
So again a big thanks to our local chess players and see you all again in June 2020.
