Dorset Junior Chess Festival – Sunday 8th May

Dorset Junior Chess is excited to announce the inaugural…

Dorset Junior Chess Festival!

Sunday 8th May, 12.00 to 17.00

Merley Community Centre, Harrier Drive, Merley, Wimborne BH21 1XE

Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced player, all juniors in school years 2 to 13 inclusive from across Dorset are invited to take part in this fantastic FUN chess event.

The Junior Chess Festival will incorporate a wide range of exciting chess activities:
A chess tournament with separate sections for all levels of players
An introduction to chess for beginners
Bitesize coaching sessions by top local players (12.00 to 15.30)
A simultaneous chess display
Other chess events, a raffle, chess puzzles and prizes throughout the day

Doors for the festival will open at 12.00. We expect the fun day to finish at around 17.00.

Tournament sections will be based on experience, so everyone has a chance to win a medal whatever their level! As it’s not a knockout, all players will be able to play 6 rounds of chess. The tournament will commence at 12.30 and is expected to finish around 15.30.

Coaching and other events will run throughout the afternoon. Juniors are welcome to join at any point. There will be certificates for all attendees.

The simultaneous chess display, where a local player will take on all juniors at the same time, will finish off the day at around 15.45. Lots of fun and a prize for all winners and the last person standing!

Venue

There will be free tea, coffee, squash & biscuits available throughout and snacks at a notional cost.

There will be plenty of space for parents. Free WiFi is available. There may be chess books for sale and a chess club stall.

Please note: Parents and guardians remain responsible for the welfare of their children. We may take photographs during the festival for use on the Dorset Chess website and in newsletters and ask that parents/guardians indicate if they do not give permission for photographs of their children to be used.
