Dorset well represented at Guernsey end Oct ’19; Allan’s outstanding round 3 game recognized

28 Oct ’19: Allan Pleasants kindly sent in this report, plus his award winning game v Peter Rowe (Philidor Defence). The event lasted a week and concluded on Saturday, 26 Oct.

The Guernsey Chess Festival at the Peninsular hotel has just finished with Grand Master Mark Hebden winning the Open section with a perfect score of 7/7 whilst the Holiday tournament was won by the strong Guernsey player Arita Strade with 6.5/7 in the last game to finish. Dorchester player Sid Jones played in the Holiday tournament, and Weymouth players Ronnie Burton and Allan Pleasants played in the Open. The whole event was excellently run by organiser Peter Rowe. The event is closed by a lovely meal, and a short presentation ceremony at which, much to my surprise Ronnie and I won shares of a grading prize. International Master Nigel Povah gave an excellent presentation of the best game on the demo board and unusually he decided to present two games with my game against Peter Rowe being chosen as the second best game. Here is my comments on that game.
