Dorset Juniors get off to good start in Season 9 of Junior Online 4NCL

4ncl competition

In Season 8 of the Online Junior 4NCL, both Dorset Junior teams gained promotion – the 1st team to Division 2 and the 2nd team to Division 3.  Season 9 kicked off on Thursday 18th January 2024, so both teams were in action again.

There were some tough games for some of the first time players who, although they had mixed results, I am extremely proud of.

Dorset Juniors 1

The 1st team won 8-0.

On paper, Dorset Juniors 1 were perhaps not facing the strongest opposition in Division 2 but nevertheless gave our players some challenges. In the event however, it was a comprehensive 8-0 victory with Hugo, Michal, Jack and new team member Beatrice all recording double wins. Welcome to the team, Beatrice!

In Group A of Division 2, we are currently in joint place on full score along with Edgware Gambits B, who just happen to be our opponents in Round 2 in two weeks time. But there’s still a long way to go.

Dorset Juniors 2

The 2nd team narrowly lost 3.5 – 4.5.

Based on ratings, Dorset Juniors 2 team had very tough opposition in this Division 3 match. In addition, 3 of the 4 team members – Eli, Will and Louis – were playing in the Junior Online 4NCL for the first time, so there was an element of nerves and uncertainty initially, and one or two played too fast to start with. But it was a great learning experience.

Will achieved a nice draw with a 3 fold repetition to register points in the first set of matches.

In the second set of matches, the team seemed to settle down and there were good wins for Arthur, Eli and Louis. Welcome to the team everyone!

Well done to all of you, everyone contributed to the score and, based on ratings, the final score was a lot closer than we might have expected.

In Group A of Division 3, our Dorset Juniors 2 team is placed as the best of the teams that didn’t win, with good game points. With 6 more rounds to come and, hopefully less tough opposition, we are still well placed.
