Martin Simons has won an ECF Presidents Award for Services to Chess in recognition of the huge contribution he has made over the past 30 years.  The award is richly deserved and we are sure you will wish to join us in congratulating Martin.

You can see who else won awards here and the submission to the ECF proposing Martin for award here (pages 5 to 7).

Martin, with typical modesty, says “I have been very fortunate to have had great support from the local chess community and receiving this award is a testament to this incredible support.  It’s a great honour, I am deeply grateful and feel very humbled.”

Whilst some of the people who win awards do so at the end of their organising “careers”, we are delighted to say that Martin has no intention of “retiring” yet!
