Ringwood School hosts summer chess day

Recently, it has been very exciting to hear about the increasing levels of chess activity in local Dorset and B&DCL schools. One such initiative was a summer chess tournament hosted by Ringwood School for years 5 and 6 from the school’s feeder schools.

Louise Arnold, the Ringwood School teacher responsible for the chess event, reports…

On Tuesday the 5th July Ringwood School hosted their inaugural summer chess tournament.

Local Junior schools were invited but due to other commitments only St Ives Primary School were able to attend. St Ives fielded an enthusiastic group of year 5 and year 6 students who gave members of Ringwood School’s chess club some challenging games. The tournament was run as an all-play-all with the highest scorers being Matthew Butcher, William Langstone and Morris Woodrow.

Lots of games were played and the event was very much enjoyed by all participants. We are hoping to make this a regular fixture of the summer term and would like to thank Martin Clancy, Nikki Forster and Chess in Schools and Communities for their advice, support and loaning of equipment.

Well done Ringwood School and especially Louise!
