The 2 rating prize bandings per section will be added later once entries are known.

*Subject to anticipated entry levels. Please note that prizes are based upon a minimum of 120 players and maybe adjusted if these numbers are not achieved.

  • The entry fee for Bronze ECF and non-ECF members is £15 extra
  • The entry fee for late entries (after 16th March 2025) is  £10 extra
  • No entries will be accepted after 9pm on 26th March 2025

WECU Championship

The highest placed player in the Open section who meets the qualifying criteria specified in Congress Rules and Conditions of Entry  will be crowned the West of England Chess Champion.
(No monetary prize is attached to this).

British Chess Championship Qualifying Place

The highest placed player in the Open section who meets the qualifying criteria specified in Congress Rules and Conditions of Entry will have their entry fee to that tournament paid up to a value of £300 by the West of England Chess Union.

Time Control

90 minutes for all moves with 30 second increments for each move.

Format

All tournaments are a 5 round Swiss with about 4 hour playing sessions.

Round 1 Friday 19:00 to 23:00
Round 2 Saturday 10:00 to 14:00
Round 3 Saturday 15:00 to 19:00
Round 4 Sunday 10:00 to 14:00
Round 5 Sunday 15:00 to 19:00
