Dorset Juniors promoted in Junior 4NCL Online leagues

4ncl competition

Many congratulations to Dorset Junior on gaining promotion in the Junior 4NCL Online competition.

After some clarification of the 4NCL rules, it has been confirmed that in Division 4 the top 4 teams (subject to normal fair play confirmation) are promoted. In other divisions, this is the top two.

Despite a tough final round in the Junior 4NCL Online against the leaders Rogue Rooks, Dorset Juniors held onto 3rd place out of 37 teams in the Division 4 table, earning the team a promotion spot.

Well done to the Dorset Juniors squad of Zander Booth, Ellis Fretwell, Joshua Richards, Jackson Vann, Florence Spirling, Sam Hooks, Finn Schell, Harry Mercer, and Jacob Uphill.

The team scored 10 points out of a maximum 14 points, which is highly impressive as the team missed the first round due to administrative complications. Such was their success that the team had the second highest game points (38 GP) which enabled them to be placed highest of all the teams on 10 points.

Round 7: Thursday 13th April

The final round was a tough one. Going into the round, Dorset Juniors were in 2nd place but now faced the leaders in a final showdown.

The team’s opponents, Rogue Rooks, had comprehensively won every previous round and their team for round 7 out-rated our team on boards 2 to 4, with only board 1 being evenly matched. Plus, Dorset Juniors were without some of their players from previous rounds due to holidays. Fortunately, keen reserves, Finn and Harry, were available for this round and stepped up to play.

All played well under tough and tense conditions, knowing that a good result was needed.

Well done to Joshua Richards who played extremely well and calmly won both his long games. Also, to Zander Booth who scored 1½ out of 2.

Unfortunately, the team narrowly lost 4½ – 3½ and so had to wait to see if they had done enough. It now depended on the other teams’ performances. Third placed Chess Challengers A won their match and overtook us but due to their excellent performances in previous rounds Dorset Juniors came through.[/vc_column_text]
