Travel By Rail or Coach

The Bournemouth railway & coach station is approximately 1.6 miles from the playing venue. There is a taxi rank at the station. A M1 bus may also be used (current cost is approximately £3).

Parking

There is parking available at The Bournemouth West Hotel which may be chargeable and Parking Eye CCTV is used to monitor usage. We have been advised by the hotel that:
A) there may be an overnight rate of £15 per 24 hours if staying at the hotel
B) that if you park at the hotel during the day, then this is complimentary
but please check parking arrangements and charges with the hotel on arrival.
In all cases you must register your car number plate details at the hotel reception within 10 minutes of parking to avoid any potential fine. The Dorset County Chess Association takes no responsibility for any parking charges/fines issued issued by the hotel which is a separate contract between you and the hotel.

There is ample free on-street parking in the nearby side roads.

The superb Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel (pictured) is a modern & friendly spa hotel in central Bournemouth. It is a short walk to the town’s renowned sandy beaches, is close to the town centre and less than 2 miles to the train and coach interchange. It has 83 bedrooms with WiFi access and each have light interiors and wonderfully comfortable beds. They’re all designed to provide you with a great night’s sleep, whichever type of room you choose. The hotel also has a luxurious spa which is available for use for a small additional charge.
There is disabled access throughout the hotel. This includes:
  • A ground floor reception, bar, restaurant and playing venue with level access.
  • A disabled toilet next to the ground floor Merlot Suite (the playing venue).
  • Ground floor bedrooms.
  • Lift access to the bedrooms on the other floors which are disable friendly.
  • 2 free car parking spaces for disabled users.
Special rates for the Classic double/twin rooms on a bed & breakfast basis have been agreed with the hotel as follows (please book early as there is a limited number of rooms):
  • 13th March – £99 single occupancy £109 double occupancy
  • 14th March – £99 single occupancy £109 double occupancy min 2 nights. If you would like to stay just the Saturday night please add £20 supplement per room
  • 15th March – £89 single occupancy £99 double occupancy
Please note that the hotel operates as a cashless business i.e. no cash will be accepted.
To book rooms at the above special rates please call 01202 751000 quoting the Chess Congress on the 13th to 15th March 2026. The hotel has advised that its reservations team will take a credit card to guarantee the room, this will be charged 48 hours prior to arrival. Therefore the cancellation period on the rooms will be 48 hours. Please confirm the hotel rate and payment arrangements when booking. The Dorset County Chess Association takes no responsibility for the booking of rooms which is a separate contract between you and the hotel.

As of 10 am  29/10/25 there have been 6 entrants for whom payment confirmation has been received.

  • The entry fee for Bronze ECF and non-ECF members is £16 extra (Juniors £6.50 extra)
  • The entry fee for late entries (after Sunday 1st March 2026) is  £10 extra
  • No entries will be accepted after 9pm on 11th March 2026

Time Control

90 minutes for all moves with 30 second increments for each move.

Format

All tournaments are a 5 round Swiss with about 4 hour playing sessions.
