Following defeats in rounds 1 and 3 and a bye in round 2, the combined Hants/Dorset/Wilts team faced a Cornwall team which on paper they looked to have a chance against: Cornwall had a significant rating advantage on the top board but the remaining 14 boards were fairly evenly matched, with Hants/Dorset/Wilts actually being higher rated on 9 boards.
