4NCL Online – Season 6 Round 3 Report and Game

4ncl competition

Wessex re-entered the fray for Round 3 on the 11th of October, fielding 32 players across 8 teams, including all 5 divisions.

Martin & Allan kindly stepped in again as deputy captains and did a great job to check all 32 boards were underway (with the traditional chaser phone call required!) and the results all recorded – a big thank you to both of them.

As we near the half-way point of the season the league tables are starting to take shape so I’ve commented on how they are looking so far…

#Geek_Stats_Warning

For the 32 games played, we scored 15 wins, 6 draws and 11 losses (unfortunately one of the wins was by default).

This translated in match terms into 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses so a reasonable evening at the office.

We were higher graded on 23 boards, where we scored 13.5/23

We were lower graded on 8 boards where we scored 3.5/8

With three rounds played we have just one player with 100% – Tom Philidor – go Tom !

Now to the actual matches…

Division 1

Wessex A looked to have a great chance on paper yet it was not to be, with Gavin drawing on board 1 and Oscar wining on board 2 and losses on board 3 and 4 we went down to a narrow defeat.

With 3 losses from 3 matches we will need to start picking up some points in the rest of the season to “stay up”.

Our B team duly converted their narrow grading advantage into a narrow win, with Peter Anderson and Dominic Tunks (both making season debuts) as our two wins.

With 3 wins from 3 rounds Wessex B are riding high at the top of their section and have already secured their Div 1 place for next season!

Division 2

Wessex C were out graded on every board, yet produced a great result to draw the match, with our wins coming from Christian & Mircea-Marius.

With a match win and two match draws to date we are looking comfortable in Division 2 and probably already secure for next season.

Division 3

Wessex D heavily out-graded their opponents both overall and individually so always looked likely to win, and so it proved, with our wins coming from John, Reenen & Jamie.  Reenen’s game is given at the end of the report with light annotations by Peter Anderson.

With a match win and two match draws to date we are looking comfortable in Division 3 and probably already secure for next season.

Division 4

Our Wessex E team, helped, unfortunately, by a late default on board 1, simply wiped out their opponents for a crushing 4-0 victory, with Tim, Jamie & Joe all winning.

With 4 points from 3 rounds we are looking comfortable in Div 4.

Our F team always faced an uphill struggle against a strong Dundee City D team yet lost very narrowly with our 3 draws coming from Chris, Phil & Doug.

With 2 points from 3 rounds we are looking for a few good results to secure our place in Div 4.

Division 5

A tough evening for our G team who went down 3-1 to Bishop Knights, our only point coming from Tom “Iron man” Philidor, which takes him to 3 wins from 3 matches.

Our H team narrowly won a tight match against Barnet Knights E, with our wins coming from Chris P & Manuel.

A quick look at the “individual stats” shows our top performers so are

3/3 – Tom Philidor

2.5/3 – Phil Pinto, John Weatherlake, Chris Peacock
